On Networm

Virtualpatient-Work.Net is the update of the international case-based e-learning project NeTWoRM, founded in 2003 by the Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology & Net Teaching Unit at the University Hospital of Munich (LMU).

Although the active collaboration between our partner universities through NeTWoRM took off in 2003, the first virtual patients were created and implemented at the University of Munich (LMU) already in 1999.

For establishing the NetWoRM international teaching network, we organised a meeting with cooperating partners from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Great Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Romania, South Africa, Canada, USA and Colombia in October 2003 in Heidelberg. We decided that created clinical cases from each centre have first to be translated into an English standard version and afterwards to be adapted to the linguistic and cultural specialities of each country.

Eight years of international project partnership generated through NeTWoRM approximately 90 unique virtual patients altogether presented in nine different languages with users in Europe, North- and Latin America, India and South Africa.

The financing, development and dissemination of NeTWoRM virtual patients was in Europe realized by its seven project partner universities in Germany, France, the UK, the Netherlands, Romania and Spain (Zaragoza and Badalona). Moreover, four partner universities situated in Chile, Brazil and Columbia contributed with virtual patients authored in Spanish and Portuguese.
